Attention: LESCO – Complaint of a young female engineer

Attention: LESCO

A young female engineer sent me this email. I may raise this issue in TV programs, but that is still at least 15 days later. Meanwhile I want feedback from other Engineers & Job Applicants who are facing similar problems with LESCO. Keep in mind that at United Nations world leaders including PM Nawaz Sharif are trying to push an Agenda of Gender Equality as part of Sustainable Development Goals. (SDG)

Email – As received:

I am an electrical engineer graduated from UET lahore. I have an excellent academic background.
NTS marks in LESCO test: 69 (Second highest among girls)
B.Sc in electrical engineering: 3.687/4.00 CGPA
F.Sc: 1012/1100, Gold medalist
Matric: 802/850

Recently, LESCO has conducted recruitment for junior engineer/SDO post. They called 500+ candidates for final interview against 105 seats. I was on number 6 according to merit. Interview weight-age was only 20 % (source is HR director who told many candidates the same thing before final interview). They have finally issued the letters but my name is no where in the final candidates. I could be considered on open merit, punjab quota and women quota as well but nothing happened at all people who were at 148, 115,203 merit number are getting calls from Punjab.

Its beyond logic that a person who is among top 10 will not secure any position in final list. Its not only me, there are a lot of people suffering. List of toppers of LESCO before interview who have not got letter.

Roll no 2 Usman babar
Roll no 3 Neha
Roll no 4 Muhammad ahmad
Roll no 5 Salman shahzad
Roll no 6 Hafiza Sidra Iqbal
Roll no 7 Faisal siddique
Roll number 14 Mobahila Tariq
Roll no 18 Waqar saeed bhatti
Roll no 30 Ali riaz.

Which mean 6 out of top 7 have not got letter.
Can you please raise this issue? It will be really a great favor towards us. We are not saying that people are hired by giving money

but they should tell us why top 10 are not even last 10 on final list.

I have sent message to other anchors too. But nobody has replied me or raised this issue. Can you do something or suggest me anything? There is no transparency in DisCos of Pakistan. LESCO did not even upload the final list (Although HR director told that they will upload).

NOTE: These roll numbers are actually the merit numbers before interview (merit number was made by calculating 40% NTS marks, 25% CGP, 15% F.Sc, 10% matric).

How do you know who am I ?

Moeed Pirzada | FB Blog |

How do you know who am I ? And what I meant? – A day earlier I was arguing the same with a certain Nitin Joshi on Twitter, I pointed out that he misunderstood a note I wrote. But he shot back and said that he has the right to discover what he finds “relevant” or “important” in what I wrote. I conceded with a cynic remark which meant that “many versions” of myself have started to exist as per whatever anyone wants to conceive or interpret. What I am or represent does not matter. Same now is happening with this “Maulana” false story & my note of explanation.

Truth mostly, if not always, depends upon our ability to perceive it, and our ability to grasp it depends upon our sum total understanding of life, ourselves and world around us. In other words our understanding is limited by who we are. Remember that frog in a village well who was confronted by the taunt that did he know how large an ocean is? retorted by drawing a circle large enough to approximate the circumference of the well and said: “Ocean couldn’t be bigger than this, could it be?” Most of us, in many situations are like that frog, especially if we insist on locking ourselves in our little worlds. Our understanding of world is who we are!

I was reacting to the false news that a certain Maulana was recently intercepted by police, found drunk, arrested and then released on intervention of certain TV anchors. To me as a media person this was a pathetic example of yellow journalism for the event didn’t happen the way it was described.

Now the ensuing debate on the page: whether a certain Maulana or many Maulanas are drunkards & debauch? Should such and such person should hold such and such title? And the latest twist that how dare I accuse Maulanas of something like this when I myself have been a fraud who had been forging documents to steal property from my dying father are various rival interpretations and comments on something “arrest of Maulana in drunk state” that actually never happened – even two years ago. This debate is not about Maulana; it is about who various people are, how they perceive the world around them, what they stand for, who they hate etc.

Thanks to most of you this page has become very important! But some of you – a small number- are “plain idiots” and don’t deserve to be on this page. This page and its active community is like a club and all clubs have a certain level to be admitted. Numbers don’t matter, what matters is the level and intelligence of debate.I have gradually realised that despite TV’s reach across large sections of populations now TV programs often are less influential and what I write here or on Twitter creates far greater impact. FB & Twitter have created thousands and thousands of friends and well wishers and hundreds of powerful enemies.

In recent months all my acclaim and most of my problems & troubles have been a direct result and outcome of what I say and write here. Unfortunately this means these pages & Twitter handle are monitored & even penetrated by different interests and they are now not only what you commonly think about with euphemistic terms of “idaray”but others much beyond have also been actively interested.

Why? As I said earlier, it is not about numbers; it is about level of comment and debate and the ideas it creates. And despite monitoring and its hazards (for me, not you) there is a very interesting silver lining. What most of you write, in reasoned manner, with logic and conviction, is being read, analysed and creates impact. This has started to become a sort of newspaper or magazine. And most of you deserve Congratulations for this! However there is no real “power without responsibility”.

British writer James Curran had authored a book about media with this title “Power without Responsibility” which I read at London School of Economics. Pakistani electronic media is a classic, text book example of Curran’s thesis – though James Curran’s model was a warning about Britain. But Britain & west heeded the warning and avoided the trap; just like west understood George Orwell and saved democracy. Today “Orwellian Societies” exist in many other parts of the world but not in west.

But Pakistani Media (News & Current Affairs) has gradually lost its relevance and power. Most intelligent people and politics have become immune to whatever media keeps on saying. It has become a noise box of increasing irrelevance. Same is about to happen to social media. My bottom line is: there is no “real power without responsibility”. If you want to have impact in world of ideas, if you want relevant people to take you seriously, if you want to do good then learn to comment with logic, reason and responsibility.

More later! Including why more Indians should be here and not less!
Thanks! & Eid Mubarak!
Wherever you are!

Altaf Hussain latest political blunder?

Moeed Pirzada |

Altaf Hussain’s latest Political Blunder? It’s true that MQM and its leadership is under unprecedented pressure and Altaf Hussain isolated in the UK has to react, show potency and power and political leverage, to sustain hopes and aspirations of hundreds and thousands of followers in Karachi and Hyderabad who look to him to provide solutions to deal with a difficult situation that is demoralising the rank and file.

But his latest outbursts calling for NATO forces in Karachi, taunting India for not helping “Muhajirs” and writing to UN Secretary General UN for intervention into Pakistan are serious political blunders that only increase isolation of MQM from national politics, confuse its followers and exhibit helplessness and desperation.

Altaf hussain must come up with a better political vision instead of repeating old slogans & threats that have no real effect in changed national and regional dynamics. For instance the loss of control on media platforms that no longer broadcast his outbursts live from London to whole Pakistan has severely curtailed Altaf Hussain’s threat perception and needs deep reflection by MQM leadership.

his latest outbursts calling for NATO forces in Karachi, taunting India for not helping “Muhajirs” and writing to UN Secretary General UN for intervention into Pakistan are serious political blunders that only increase isolation of MQM from national politics, confuse its followers and exhibit helplessness and desperation.

What MQM needs to understand is that continuous references to India & Muhajirs from India don’t help. Not anymore. Appeals to UN and NATO are pointless in a changed regional situation with Pakistani Establishment now becoming a pillar of stability in Afghanistan and against jihadi outfits. Altaf had conveniently ignored the executions of LEJ’s Malik Ishaq and what it means in terms of changing dynamics.

MQM leadership needs deep reflections; it continues to be Karachi’s most popular party; it represents educated middle classes and its best bet is to have a strategy that allows it to connect with middle class feelings and politics across Pakistan. That surely is difficult. But Altaf Hussain’s frustrated outbursts from London are not helping MQM’s politics!

Just posted the program in which Jan Achakzai of JUIF & Asif Hasnain of MQM were bent upon throwing PTI out of Assemblies on a point of principle and Ayesha Gul Lalai kept fighting but despite my repeated pressing on the issue no one came out with what is really happening, after all what is this all about?

Towards the very end, literally the last sound byte, Asif of MQM could not hold it and blurted the reality: PMLN wants the “Sword of potential Disqualifications” hanging on PTI’s head for a long long time…at least till the end of local bodies elections in Punjab…

Asif was 100% right; my sources tell me that PMLN now wants these “De-Seat Resolutions” pending for several months, so that week after week in every session PTI keeps on defending itself, unable to focus on other issues – whatever is possible in Pakistani National Assembly…!

Is this a good politics? The answer is: this is politics! Politics is often like that; it is a continuous incessant clash of interests, and PTI has to prepare itself to fight it along with its own tactics and shifting alliances…

Let’s see how they wriggle out of this?

Tale of two Cases; Axact & Ayyan Ali : Moeed Pirzada

Tale of two Cases; Axact & Ayyan Ali – Nothing offers a bigger contrast to understand the priorities of Pakistani political and media elite and of the whole governing system.

In case of Axact, Minister of Interior acted like the hero of ‘Fast & Furious’ and media persons especially from the top suddenly discovered an unlimited reservoir of moral outrage against the fake degrees. Ironically some of them may have far serious and proven cases of corruption pending against them in government files. But right now they are all aligned with the government under the old principal: Enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Together with the government media tycoons are busy digging, inventing and reinventing the “weapons of mass destruction” only this time they are called “fake degrees”; quintessential American term “diploma mills” is suddenly our biggest concern while half of Karachi is without drinking water.

Now shift the scene. Today Ayyan Ali appeared in a court for the 8th time. She was arrested on 14th or 15th March from Islamabad airport with $500,000/- in her possession. This almost shouts of money laundering. Her initial statements to media – widely reported on tv and printed in major papers – was that money belonged to Khalid Malik; Customs found out that she had traveled abroad 43 times in last two years, something like 83 times in last five years. It was soon discovered, which everyone believes privately and publicly, that powerful politicians are running a money laundering racket which connects amongst other things with the “gray traffic” which runs into billions and billions. If Ayyan Ali alone carried $500,000 each time then in last two years she would have money laundered Rs. 250 crore. Media found out that PA of a top politician and office holder brought the bag for her and he was seen with her in the lounge. But Ayyan Ali is not alone; reportedly there are scores of others engaged for this laundering business.

Eight weeks have passed, no proper investigation has been done or presented in the court. Case is only being dragged to finally grant her a bail. Media follows her not to find facts but to have a stealthy look. She kept on changing her positions; but no one has been questioned; Khalid Malik is off course above law. But a very basic investigation would have checked her claims. Who were the persons she said she sold her plots for Rs. 5 Crore? Were the plots in her name? Did she buy plots? When? How she paid? What are her revenues from her fashion shows? Do her revenues and incomes match her bank statements? How much she has been spending on her credit cards? How much she has spent on buying air tickets? did she travel business class or economy? Was any one sponsoring her? Do her trips correspond with fashion events held abroad which she attended? How long her trips were?

Nature of this investigation and scope demands that Customs get support from FIA or IB, but Interior Minister, our new hero of “Fast and the Furious” seems not interested nor is anyone else in the government or opposition – not even poor FBR that just discovered that Bol’s heavy equipment is not duty paid. (so that another excuse can be found to stop broadcasts) All have accepted that it will be extremely discourteous to unearth the “Money laundering Racket” behind all this. In the end all are friends, and stake holders. You scratch my back and I will scratch yours.

But what about the media? media that is busy inventing new facts, definitions and startling revelations about “fake degrees” is only interested in Ayyan’s good looks, her youth and fashion and her costumes. News bulletins look like fashion shows from court – Has any media platform or even newspaper has deputed a few reporters to find out whose money Ayyan Ali was carrying? What is the quantum of money laundering by carriers? How is it connected with the gray traffic? Who is collecting money from gray traffic now in this govt? Is all this not interesting? Is any powerful Editor of a large paper that has many reporters concerned about this? All questions above for FIA also apply to media houses. Why media is not interested?

Did I mention in my last post that a media aligned with government can be anything but it can never be the “free media”?

Source

We discover ourselves in love & hate! Axact crisis has exposed the moral bankruptcy of Pakistani Media. It has shown us our true faces in the mirror.

Yes! may be Bol won’t appear but it will be a Pyrrhic victory for many powerful men in media for what they don’t realize is that the crisis is driving a wedge between the general public and media.

Media drive agendas on the myth that they are about “public interest” or “collective good”; rich businessmen only derive the legitimacy of controlling media empires for men and women in front on the screens are considered intellectuals, free spirits operating in “public sphere” that permits them to take shots at governments, state and church. If media expose them to be nothing but a club of powerful men joined together and working in collusion with a government against their common enemies then the very essence of free media dies.

Governments can control and discipline the capitalists, however big their factories and buildings may be, through their bureaucracies; its the “robust public sphere” that defends media from the power of the state. Collusion of media with the government is the end of “public sphere”. Time to wake up!

There were days when two English papers had 90% of their stories about Axact; one day a leading English paper on its front page had 13/17 stories about Axact; little did its editors realized that hatred of Bol and Shoaib Sheikh have ruined them in the eyes of their readers. News stories are full of exaggerations distortions and outright lies. Facts are being manipulated and when needed: invented to mislead the readers and viewers. TV newscasters – young smart men and pretty women – falling out of their chairs, trying to beat each other in showing excitement in taking cheap shots at Axact’s CEO so that they can please their own Seths; this theater of absurd reached its climax when a News Channel turned prominent media persons into mice running from the sinking ship of Axact. News media are already degenerated over the years to such an extent that no one in the newsroom or those who protested in media realized that such an item, if it fits at all, could fit only into a comedy show and not “Headline News”.

Many professionals have started realizing the ridiculousness to which this crisis has lowered our standards, others will realize soon that in a Faustian bargain for power and security they have lost what defines them: their expression; the ability to differentiate between right and wrong and to be able to take a stand on it. Media aligned with the government – however glossy top you may put on it – are not “free media”. Power of the financial interest is not the power of the media. Never before was threat more great to “free media” as it is now. Its time to open our eyes! Amen!

History’s first draft is always a journalistic account; I have given you an outline to understand what happened and why and will write more as I gather more insights. However lets see who steps in to buy BOL? Since the attack against the channel looks pretty lethal now, apparently as per plan, so there must be some plan to use the amazing assets they had created. Real issues right now are the plight of those 1500 – 1800 media persons who have to find jobs and the increased power of financial interests over the journalistic voices within the industry….more later!

Reham Khan Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf in an exclusive interview with Dr. Moeed Pirzada

0

An exclusive talk with Tehrek Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s Ex wife Reham Khan at banni gala just few months after they got married. Reham khan is a media personal and was doing her own current Affairs show before getting married. There were many controversies at that time in media that Reham Khan will join PTI politics but she denied in the interview. She said that being dual nationality holder UK and Pakistan she is not allowed to take part in Pakistan politics but she is interested in social welfare projects that’s why she became ambassador of street children in Khyber Pakhton khaw Province. Also there were scandals about her alleged fake educational degrees but she cleverly covered that during the interview.
